Celebrating 90 Years Of Silver End

06 May 2016

The village of Silver End has just celebrated its 90th anniversary. To mark the occasion Braintree District Museum held a Crittall Windows reunion afternoon, focused around the history of the village.

Darren Joyce, Crittall’s Head of Technical Sales (pictured) attended, talking with visitors about Crittall’s heritage and the significant part the company has played locally.

The village was founded by Crittall Windows as a self-contained community for workers in the new Silver End Crittall factory and is a pioneering example of modernist design.

Braintree Museum’s Collections Manager, Claire Willetts, gave a talk on the history of Silver End, exploring how the village was developed through the eyes of the Crittall Magazine from the Museum Archives.

Visitors could look at artefacts from the Museum’s Crittall Windows archive including photographs, staff magazines, product catalogues and other materials.
